Running head: WEEK 3 ASSIGNMENT 1
Week 3 assignment 4
Title of your paper
Course information (HCA430 – Special Populations)
Instructor’s name (Jennifer Maves)
Date – spelled out (i.e. January 19, 2015)
Who is your chosen vulnerable population and why do they need the proposed service?
Proposed program description
Please explain in detail the service your program will offer in your community that is not already present. This is a recap from the week 2 written assignment. You may make changes in the focus of your program if you discover this is necessary. Please be sure to identify which element of the continuum of care your proposed service will address: preventative, treatment, or long term care.
Barriers to receiving proper care
* This should discuss your population in general, not your model program
Barrier 1 covers individual financial problems.
Barrier 2 covers a community or state level barrier in either funding or access, such as closures of facilities due to funding cuts, distance people in rural areas must travel to reach qualified care, problems with being able to travel (no car, no funds to pay for gas, etcetera).
Barrier 3 covers an issue of your choice.
Potential solutions to barriers
*Solutions should not be your model program and solutions should be towards your population, not your model program.
Proposed solutions to overcome barrier 1, 2 and 3 from the previous section. How can an individual get financial assistance for the services they need? For barrier 2, which is the community/state level barrier related to access and funding of programs, analyze the current funding for health care of those in need in your community/state.
As a side note, please consider if your proposals are realistic methods of overcoming the barrier. In the past, students have attempted to get around the subject of funding by stating the clientele will be non-paying. Even in not-for-profit businesses, there has to be some type of income in order to pay for overhead expenses such as building fees, utilities, insurance, and any payroll expenses. While it is easy to say your services will be provided by professionals who volunteer their time, it is not realistic that this will actually occur on a regular basis to meet the needs of your clientele.
Analysis of Regulatory, Legal, Ethical, and Accreditation Requirements
Regulations relate to procedures organizations must follow in order to obtain assistance from other agencies. Factors such as non-discrimination, maintaining documentation of the people served, hours of operation, meeting the public health requirements, whether they profit from the services offered (especially if the organization is a non-profit business), and participation in political activities or even the wearing of political advertising by employees on the premises. You may want to do a Google search for “regulations for ____ (your service).” This will give you an idea of the common regulations and issues related to your service.
Laws for _____ (your service). These include state and federal laws.
Ethical expectations for _____ (your service). While an action may be legal, it may not be ethical. Every person in an organization that provides services must uphold high ethical standards in order to protect the population being served from being victimized by the provider.
Accreditation standards for _____ (your service). According to Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care,
Accreditation is an external, independent review of a health care delivery organization against nationally-accepted standards and its own policies, procedures, processes and outcomes. In other words: Is the organization delivering safe, high-quality patient care in the way that it says it will?
AAAHC accreditation means that the organization participates in on-going self-evaluation, peer review and education to continuously improve its care and services. The organization also commits to a thorough, on-site survey by AAAHC surveyors, who are themselves health care professionals, at least every three years (2014, para. 4).
