Please read this ARTICLE (https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/the-conservative-texas-mayor-leading-the-charge-with-renewable-energy-on-the-green-new-deal/)
So, we could probably talk forever and never settle this whole climate change thing. BUT, regardless of our personal opinions, do we as public managers and leaders have an ethical obligation to pay attention to our changing world? (whether that be energy or climate related, or some other changes)
This mayor is doing so in terms of renewable energy. He sees it to be a good deal economically, and in his opinion, it is forward thinking, and will be a positive thing for his community in the long run.
Do we as public managers and leaders have an ethical obligation to look at long term solutions to problems, just as much as short term ones? Even if there are more up front costs associated with that? Even if the real benefits come about 20 or 40 years from now, and some of the people paying for the improvements are no longer around?
The mayor talks about incentives for people to get on board with these kinds new ideas. Do you have any ideas of what kinds of incentives might work?
What do you think of this mayor? Is he open minded, or is he just grabbing headlines?
