DUE:
Group Presentation informal in class:
· Company Selection
· Creating Understanding
· Define a Supply Chain Management problem
SECTION 2
(Group paper and Presentation informal in class)
1. Company Selection – research and find a not-for-profit or profit organization which has supply chain problems that your group can work with.
2. Creating Understanding – Get to know the fundamentals about the organization you will consult for. Size of business, management, products or services, customers, suppliers, competitors, challenges etc.
3. Define a Supply Chain Management problem – understand the issue. The scale of the problem is important because we have less than 16 weeks to complete this project for the organization. Real clarity will be the key.
a) Realistically decide if the problem is an opportunity or a “facts of life” – A fact of life is something you can do nothing about. An opportunity has the potential to be solved.
b) Look at the problem for many angles – Try to develop multiple definitions of the problem. This allows you to come up with multiple solutions.
c) Question what is causing the problem then question it again – Break down the cause to the root cause. Stay away from treating a symptom.
Deliverables:
· Group presentation in class
· 2 – 3 page paper covering the “Group Selection”

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM OR CHALLENGE
Government Discount is a small store that sells the items listed above. The store never had inventory but since there are many items, and the working group has only 12 weeks to present a Supply Chain project we are only going to focus on perfumes (the section where the store spends more money on purchases) We are going to focus on the purchasing system and the inventory. These first few weeks we are getting to know the purchasing system (I ADD THE NAME OF THE SYSTEM, YOU WRITE3 POINTS) and the suppliers (I ADD THE NAME OF THE SUPPLIERS, YOU WRITE3 POINTS). The purchasing system is slow and confusing and there is no way to detect trends, novelties, and offers that supplier offer us in terms of perfumes. Our job is to see how the buyer can find new suppliers and to see how to detect offers and launches of new perfumes without the store having to wait for customers to ask about the new perfumes. In the next few weeks, we will work on implementing an inventory process.
FIND A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF PURCHASES
SUGGESTIONS THAT I CAN GIVE YOU (Suppliers send emails with offers and news. The emails are ignored by the buyer, she only focuses on the perfumes that she has entered into her system) (another solution could be to attend a Show where the vendors display their merchandise and offer discounts)
CREATE AN INVENTORY PROCEDURE
(RECEIPT OF MERCHANDISE, ENTRY OF INVOICE, COUNT THE STOCK ALREADY EXISTING)
NOTE: Do not cite sources, it is the description of the work that we are doing in an internship.
