The issue that I am going to discuss is racial equality. The United States “Department of Education has announced its first equity action plan as part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s ongoing commitment to improving racial Equity and supporting underserved areas through the federal government (US Department of Education, 2022). While the Department strives to assist schools, communities, students, educators, and families in recovering from the epidemic and rebuilding stronger than before March 2020”, achieving Equity and eliminating disparities exacerbated by the pandemic continue to be top goals (US Department of Education, 2022). Miguel Cardona, the United States Secretary of Education, emphasized his goals “earlier this year when he laid out his vision for education in America. The Department’s equity action plan builds on existing processes and introduces new tactics to advance Equity while promoting student accomplishment and ensuring that the nation’s education system meets the needs of today’s global economy” (US Department of Education, 2022).
Teachers and students must work together to promote equality and diversity in school. With this in mind, the goal is to establish a classroom climate in which all kids may thrive together while also understanding that individual features make people unique rather than making them ‘different’ in a bad sense. It is beneficial for all kids to attend racially diverse schools. It is related to lower test score gaps between students of different racial origins, not because white student achievement has fallen, but because black and Hispanic student achievement has increased.
To address the current pandemic recovery efforts and the long-standing inequities that underserved students and communities confront in gaining equal educational opportunities, the Department of Education has announced several strategies to integrate Equity into its operations and mission. The Department’s supplementary activities include;
They are prioritizing the attainment of a postsecondary degree. For traditionally underprivileged populations, postsecondary attainment continues to be inequitably available as impediments to attaining a postsecondary degree or certificate exist. To increase accessibility and affordability, the Department will update and improve its process for vetting financial aid applicants and awarding financial help (US Department of Education, 2022).
K-12 children will be able to benefit from the American Rescue Plan’s $130 billion in funding. The pandemic has disproportionately affected students from low-income households, students with disabilities, language learners, homeless students, and migrating students (US Department of Education, 2022). The Department is committed to helping schools and communities recover from the epidemic as intended under the American Rescue Plan (ARP). Maintaining Equity, the first-of-its-kind requirement of the ARP Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund will continue to be supported by the Department. SEAs and LEAs are prohibited from reducing per-pupil funding to districts and schools in a disproportionate manner, and they are also prohibited from reducing funding for districts with the highest levels of poverty.

For the first time in history, the “Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights” will gather data from all public schools for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years instead of every other year (US Department of Education, 2022). COVID-19’s consequences on students’ academic, social, and emotional development necessitate extra data gathering, which will help the Department detect educational disparities as the country continues to deal with the pandemic.
Procurement and contracting practices should be more equitable. Moreover, 20% of all agency procurement activities go to minority-owned small enterprises, although they receive much less money. Responding to these findings, DHS will look for opportunities to award greater dollar actions to minority-owned small firms, as mandated in federal contracting law. It will also engage with its Senior Executive Service (SES) to ensure that executive performance plans are aligned with the Department’s small business contracting priorities.
It is increasing the level of diversity in the grant-making process. Access to high-quality education and innovative teaching and learning are two areas of concentration for the Department of Education as it carries out its mandate. External education experts and practitioners participate as peer reviewers for the Department each year. The Department intends to broaden its outreach efforts to attract as many reviewers as feasible.
National Education Association thinks that the education profession consists of a single education workforce that serves all students’ needs. The term “educator” encompasses education support professionals, teachers, and administrators (Nea, 2020). Educators who believe in the intrinsic value and dignity of human beings recognize the importance of the pursuit of truth, the pursuit of excellence, and the development of democratic principles. Achieving these goals will be impossible without safeguarding the freedom to learn and teach and ensuring that all students have access to an equal education. Ethical standards must be maintained at all times by the educator. As a classroom instructor, the educator understands the weight of responsibility. When one’s coworkers, students, parents, and other community members know that they can count on you to uphold the highest standards of ethical behavior, it serves as a powerful motivator to do the same in one’s career and personal life (Nea, 2020). The Code of Ethics for the Education Profession expresses the ambition of all educators and establishes standards by which to evaluate professional behavior.

As a result of their duty to the student, the educator Should not hinder a student’s ability to take initiative in their own education or restrict their exposure to a variety of viewpoints (Nea, 2020). Subject matter that is critical to student progress is suppressed or distorted. shall not intentionally humiliate or denigrate the student in order to protect the learner’s health and safety or educational progress. A person’s sexual orientation or race should never be a factor in how they are treated. Will not take advantage of professional relationships with students for their own gain. Students’ personal information should not be shared with anybody outside of the institution unless it is required by law or serves a compelling professional purpose.
The public has placed a great level of trust and responsibility in the education profession, which necessitates the provision of the highest possible standards of professional service. Educators should make every effort to raise professional standards, foster an environment that encourages professional judgment, create conditions that attract people who are worthy of the public’s trust to careers in education, and assist in the prevention of the practice of the profession by unqualified individuals, in the belief that the quality of the services provided by the education profession directly affects the nation and its citizens.
Every kid should receive an education. The United Nations has recognized this as one of the fundamental human rights of every child, recognizing the harm that comes from having ignorant people and the necessity of having an educated population as a whole. Unfortunately, there have always been some obstacles to effective learning that both students and educators have had to contend with. Some of these obstacles are entrenched in our ethical principles (Dún Laoghaire, 2022). In today’s schools, the subject of diversity is continually being raised because students come from a diverse range of socioeconomic and ethnic origins. In particular, public schools have had to deal with issues of racial injustice and ethnic inequities in the classroom, which has been a challenge. To address the issue of diversity in the educational setting, all educational institutions, particularly public ones, must change their curricula. To bring together children from a variety of backgrounds and to foster a sense of community among them, ethnic sports and multicultural festivals should be created at schools. With the incorporation of key historical problems from many ethnic backgrounds, students will be able to better understand each other’s cultural and religious differences while also becoming more comfortable with their own.
