The reading for this week:

Alex Soojung-Kim Pang’s The Distraction Addictionhttps://books.google.com/books?id=T8-FllO5RicC&printsec=frontcover&dq=addicted+to+technology%27&hl=en&sa=X&ei=_JogVYGHsSpsAXSj4D4CQ&ved=0CDoQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=addicted%20to%20technology’&f=false

In the book The Distraction Addiction, Alex Soojung-Kim Pang writes about how the many digital distractions such as our computers and cell phones can inhibit us from focusing on one task at a time. Although you have only read an excerpt of this book, I want you to consider the ideas that Soojung-Kim Pang presents in the beginning of the book.

Please choose ONE of the writing prompts below, and write a complete response of at least 300 words and include evidence (i.e., quote a sentence or two) from the reading. Please include the number that you are responding to or the entire question before your response. Also, please return to the discussion board to read and respond to at least 2 of your classmates’ posts.

  1. What do you think about Soojung-Kim Pang’s points in the excerpt that you read? Are you suffering from “the distraction addiction” that he describes? If so, how? What aspects of your life consist of digital distractions? Work? Home? School? Please refer to sentences from the excerpt that you read. In other words, connect what you have stated with what Soojung-Kim Pang states.
  2. Some professors may have their students read the entire The Distraction Addiction book. Based on what you have read, do you consider this book to be a good or bad choice for an EN 101 class? What makes it good or bad? Please provide evidence from the excerpt that you read.
